Fair Oaks Farmers Market

So with both daughters home at the same time, we (The Myers 4) decided to check out the Farmers Market in Old Fair Oaks last Wednesday night. It was a very good decision. So over the river (literally) and through the woods (pretty much) we rode our bikes from Gold River. Overlooking the American River…

The Games Within The Games

So I was all dressed in my workout stuff and on the way out the door to the gym at 6:45 yesterday morning when I got sucked into the vortex that is the Olympics. (And they hadn’t even started yet.)   I took off my Nikes, sat down in my big, old, well-worn-and-stained-but-loved sage green chair and watched Matt Lauer, Savannah and…

I’m Short

Not Danny Devito (Daniella Devita?) short. Or Wizard of Oz munchkin short.  But I’m short compared to, say, Shaq and Giselle.  I’m tall,  though, when standing next to my sweet,  now 4’11” mom. I was, once upon a time,  tall to Cassidy and Julia, when they were three and six, looking up adoringly at me.     I’m 5’4″ on…

We’re Baaack…

It’s back to Reality-Ville come Monday.  But what a glorious, too-brief, beautiful vacay it was. I have a question for you though:  Do you ever envision how something is going to be…and then the reality of it is totally different? Not good, not bad,  just different? Because, like, in my previous post (Gone Fishin’), I was…

Gone Fishin’…

Well, I’m not going fishing. But Chuck and Cassidy and Julia (and Matt!) will carry on their 15-year tradition of going fishing while at our weeklong getaway to Lake Tahoe. They will seek out a pier and drop their lines… and then return home with what I suspect will be very fishy fish stories. Matt,…

I Gotta Gush!

Sorry. I do. I gotta gush. Because my girlies are coming back to California, coming back to the Empty Nest! order celebrex prescription     They won’t be here for long. But  we’ll take what we can get. Not since Christmas have The Myers 4 been under one roof, together.  Six- plus long months. Kinda…

Arugula, America, and Other Summer Loves

I Love Summer… Where the patio is always open and the screen door is closed (those pesky flies!). When the grill is hot, the shady oak is cool, the Chardonnay is chilled, and the ice cream is cold. Where a long afternoon nap is welcome, and “peaches gone bad” are forbidden. When the bikinis are…

About Me

It's true! Despite playing defense virtually all my life against the onslaught of this sometimes-ugly aging process, it...has...arrived! I naively thought I would escape cellulite (the Cottage Cheese) and crow's feet (the Crepe Paper). But I didn't! And why didn't anyone tell me about this emotional roller-coaster that comes with being an Empty-Nester?! My name is Jodie Barringer Myers. I'm a 54-year-old Friday/chardonnay/ hydrangea-loving wife/mom/court reporter living in Sacramento (Gold River!), California. Writing is cathartic for me. And because I look to find humor and humility among the rubble that is my now very peri-menopausal self, I'm hopeful that you will laugh, cry, learn, enjoy and, most of all, relate to what I have to say. After all, we're all in this together, right?
